Nordregio welcomes new Research Director, Thomas Niedomysl

Nordregio is pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas Niedomysl as its new Research Director. Thomas commenced his role this month, taking charge of Nordregio’s research priorities and providing support to the research team.

Thomas Niedomysl brings a wealth of experience in regional development research, with a particular focus on population dynamics. His extensive background includes practical experience in addressing local and regional development challenges, combining academic insights with applied strategies.

“Hopefully, I will have many opportunities to discuss with policymakers and pick up topics that are important from a research perspective, as well as contribute to practical research and dissemination,” said Thomas Niedomysl.

Thomas has previously worked in various Swedish settings, including at Uppsala Municipality, Region Halland, and Lund and Uppsala Universities. This new role marks his first opportunity to work in a Nordic context, and he is eager to engage with the unique challenges and opportunities it presents.

“Above all, I look forward to taking part in the challenges that regions and local communities face and seeing how research can contribute. The Nordic countries have enough in common and still enough variation for transferable lessons to be identified and applied,” Thomas added.

“Thomas will carry on the great foundation that the previous Research Director, Karen Refsgaard, has started to build for our research knowledge capital. I look forward to Thomas’ contribution and new perspectives,” said Rolf Elmér, Director for Nordregio.
