Nordregio’s research director appointed to Formas’ Scientific Council

Thomas Niedomysl, Nordregio’s research director, has been appointed by the Swedish government to Formas’ Scientific Council. Formas is a governmental research council for sustainable development, providing input to government research policy, as well as funding research and innovation.

Formas’ Scientific Council sets the focus and is responsible for Formas’ research and innovation funding. Thomas Niedomysl’s experience from both practical and academic settings, including roles at Uppsala Municipality, Region Halland, and as a faculty member at Lund and Uppsala Universities, aligns closely with Formas’ mission to support research and innovation in sustainability.

– I am pleased and honoured. I look forward to taking part in Formas’ important work and building on my experience from applied research, Thomas Niedomysl says.

Formas’ Scientific Council consists of thirteen members. These include academics elected by peers from Swedish universities and professionals appointed by the government, ensuring a diverse and comprehensive representation of Sweden’s scientific community.

Thomas Niedomysl joins other distinguished members for the 2025-2027 mandate period, under the chairmanship of Sylvia Schwaag Serger, CEO of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences.
