SUNREM is implemented by a cross-Nordic consortium of Nordregio, Fafo, ÅSUB and University of Akureyri Research Centre, bringing together expertise in regional development, social policy, statistics, and applied research.

Nordregio is a leading Nordic and European research centre for regional development and planning, established by the Nordic Council of Ministers in 1997. It conducts solution-oriented and applied research, addressing current issues from both a research perspective and the viewpoint of policymakers and practitioners. Operating at international, national, regional, and local levels, Nordregio’s research covers a wide geographic scope, emphasising the Nordic and Baltic Sea Regions, Europe, and the Arctic.

Fafo is an independent Norwegian social science research foundation specialising in working life, welfare policy, and labour market participation. Established in 1982 and reorganised as a non-profit foundation in 1993, Fafo conducts applied, policy-relevant research with a focus on employees and groups at risk of labour market exclusion. Its research spans labour market organisation, integration and exclusion, lifelong learning, welfare services, and living conditions. Fafo works closely with public authorities, social partners, and international organisations, maintaining high standards of ethics, methodological quality, and data protection.

Statistics and Research Åland (ÅSUB) is an independent public organisation and the official statistics authority of the Åland Islands. ÅSUB produces official statistics across areas such as population, labour market conditions, public finances, education, and tourism, while also conducting applied research and economic analyses. Its work supports evidence-based policymaking, with a focus on the development of the Åland economy in a Nordic and international context. ÅSUB participates in Nordic and international statistical cooperation and adheres to internationally recognised principles on quality, independence, and data protection.

The University of Akureyri Research Centre (RHA) is an independent research centre within the University of Akureyri, established in 1992. RHA strengthens the university’s research capacity through applied and cross-disciplinary projects, with a strong focus on regional and national development. Its activities include research services, dissemination of research results, and organisation of seminars, lectures, and conferences. RHA works closely with academic, public, and economic stakeholders to provide knowledge and analysis that inform policy and practice in regional and local contexts.
