Map showing regional differences when it comes to gender related to post secondary education
25 February, 2015
The map shows regional differences in gender related to post secondary education where red colours indicate the presence of more females while blue indicate more males. The results show different historical legacies of post-secondary education in the Arctic, leading to a situation where the Russian north and the Nordic countries have had a longer history of developing educational opportunities and therefore they show a substantially higher proportion of women with post-secondary education. In general the marked higher share of women compared with men pursuing and accomplishing a post-secondary education has become a general pattern in the Arctic. However this pattern has during the latest years been challenged in some regions by the increasing employment in oil and gas industry where a lion share of newcomers are males without post-secondary education.
