Nordic-Baltic Demographic Vulnerability 2015 indicated by gender balance of the working age population

This map shows demographic vulnerability in Nordic-Baltic regions based on the indicator gender balance of the working age population. Under this indicator, regions are deemed to be vulnerable when the gender ratio of the working age population falls below 96.38 – that is, when there are less than 96.38 females per 100 males of working age. The Nordic countries, with the exception of Denmark, and Estonia have a gender ratio below this threshold (shortage of working age females). Denmark has an overall better gender balance at the working age compared to the other Nordic countries. Lithuania and Latvia also fare well in terms of gender balance of the working age population. Gender ratios above 96.38 can also be observed in the capital areas and some dynamic, growing city-regions.

Gender balance of the working age population is one of 10 indicators used to measure demographic vulnerability in the Nordic-Baltic Region. The map “Nordic-Baltic Demographic Vulnerabilities”, takes in all 10 indicators to provide an overall picture of demographic vulnerabilities at the regional level.
