Map showing regional differences in the percentage of people in the Arctic with post secondary education
25 February, 2015
The map shows the share of population with post secondary education indicated by the intensity of the colour scale (darkest indicate higher shares and lightest indicates lower shares). While post-secondary education has been emphasized as an important tool in both regional and minority development in Russia and in the Nordic countries, a similar trend has been missing or been entered into quite recently in substantial parts of the North American continent. This the result of very different historical legacies of post-secondary education, leading to a situation where the Russian north and the Nordic countries have a relatively high proportion of the population with post-secondary education, while parts of northern Canada and Alaska show a relatively low level.
