Migration and integration

Over the past decades, two-thirds of the population increase in the Nordic Region has come from net immigration, resulting in more diverse societies but also integration challenges, particularly for refugees. At the same time, urbanisation trends continue to draw migrants from rural and peripheral areas to urban centres.  

Nordregio provides policymakers and practitioners with data-driven insights and policy analysis to address migration and integration. Our work includes evaluating indicators for social and civic integration, analysing employers’ roles in integrating migrants, and long-term unemployment among immigrants. By using data across borders, we equip local, regional, and national authorities to compare trends, learn from other regions, and foster informed decision-making.  

Collaboration with the Nordic Integration Program and comparisons with the rest of the EU, enables us to explore housing policies, area-based initiatives, and the role of civil society in fostering cohesive communities. These efforts support the Nordic Vision 2030 of becoming the world’s most integrated region, by advancing inclusive, equal, and socially sustainable societies.
