Spatial Story

From the lake to the sea

Coming from a small town in Switzerland my daily scenery combined an urban landscape of medieval heritage and the Alps’ snow-covered peaks reflected on the undulating water of Lake Neuchâtel. The city sits on the slope of a small mountain of the Jura chain, between the forest upstream and the lake downstream. Its patrimonial, pedestrian centre sprawling south down the castle’s hilltop to the lake shore. I grew up within walking distance to the city centre, in the neighbourhoods uphill that the city gained since the late 18th century to what used to be vineyards which left high stone walls enclosing the high-perched houses and buildings.

I always lived close to a train station, which meant I could daytrip to the rest of the country, the Alps, the larger cities and their vibrant cultural life, or the natural parks. It stirred my interest to how cities develop, are connected with each other, integrate with nature and are places for culture. I always discover cities on foot and like to see where they start, where they end and what the transitions look like. It is no surprise that my studies are related to urban, cultural and sustainable issues and took place in different cities. In Stockholm, I love the close proximity to nature, wherever you are.
