The OECD is implementing a project to develop recommendations for improving regional development outcomes for regions and cities that are specialised in mining and extractive industries (minerals, metals and energy resources). It will create opportunities for peer-review and learning through events and studies undertaken by the OECD.

The event in Skellefteå focuses on two key questions:
- How can mining be a driver of improved regional well-being?
- How can mining contribute to environmentally sustainable regions for future and current generations
Nordregio Academic Director Karen Refsgaard will give a presentation on bio- & circular economy and Research Fellow Leneisja Jungsberg will present the EU funded REGINA project on small scale communities with large scale economies (www.reginaproject.eu)
