The Future of Rural Europe: Making migration work for regions in decline

The Future of Rural Europe: Making migration work for regions in decline

This conference marks the conclusion of the Horizon Europe-funded project PREMIUM_EU, which has examined impacts of mobility on regional development across Europe.

Across Europe, many rural and peripheral regions are facing a tipping point. As younger people and skilled professionals move to urban centres, smaller towns and rural areas are struggling with demographic decline, shrinking workforces, and a loss of vitality. Yet in a Europe of free movement, regional futures are not set in stone.

The event, live-streamed and hosted at the European Committee of the Regions in Brussels, formally launched the Resilient Regions Policy Dashboard: a digital knowledge and policy-generating tool that helps identify tailored, data-driven strategies to improve regional attractiveness, address population decline, and strengthen long-term resilience.
