Sweden’s climate minister opens Nordic sustainability summit

On 15 October, a range of stakeholders will gather in Stockholm as the Nordic research institute Nordregio hosts the Sustainable Living Summit, a conference day for enabling sustainable lifestyles. Sweden’s Minister for Climate and the Environment, Romina Pourmokhtari, will give the opening speech.

The conference marks the conclusion of the Sustainable Living programme, coordinated by Nordregio and funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers.

The programme aims to promote sustainable lifestyle choices through a holistic perspective, which is also reflected in the structure of the Sustainable Living Summit. The conference day offers a wide array of topics, from youth issues and education to food systems, sustainable culture, and gender equality. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel will also partake on stage.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore new Nordic research and take part in panel discussions, practical workshops, and cultural events—including a redesign fashion show and talk show concept with a book talk and stand-up comedy. The idea is to provide attendees with the tools and inspiration to promote sustainable choices across decision-making levels.

Attendees will include policymakers, civil servants, businesses, consumers, academics, youth, and other interested parties.

Part of the Nordic Vision

The Sustainable Living programme and the conference are part of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ vision to make the Nordic Region the most sustainable and integrated region in the world by 2030.

Sweden holds the presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers this year, and the vision is central to the Swedish presidency’s agenda. The Swedish presidency programme states that Sweden will continue working towards making the Nordic region a leader in the green transition and a globally competitive and socially sustainable region.

The Sustainable Living Summit is open to the public, but registration is required for those wishing to attend in person at Kulturhuset in Stockholm. The number of seats is limited.

The conference will also be streamed live online. The language of the event will be English.
