The map shows that most of the Nordic municipalities have experienced net immigration, this is particularly pronounced in Denmark and Sweden. All municipalities in Greenland have experienced net emigration. In Finland, there are many municipalities with very low levels of immigration and emigration. Twenty-three of Finland’s municipalities had no immigration or emigration in 2015.

Map Facts

This map shows the international net migration rate in 2015. International migration refers to the migration to and from abroad (domestic migration is not included) and net migration rate refers to the net migration as a share (%) of the total population.

The blue areas on the map shows municipalities/regions with international net immigration, the red areas show municipalities/regions with net emigration and the yellow areas show municipalities/regions with balanced international net migration.

International migration refers to persons who have moved to or from abroad. This map does not differentiate between different forms of migration. It can be migration due to work and studies, refugees who were granted asylum or citizens that have returned from abroad. Asylum seekers are not included in the migration statistics as only those who have been granted asylum are registered as part of the population.
