Northern communities face increasing risks from climate change, infrastructure gaps, and limited emergency preparedness. Geographic isolation and fragmented governance hinder effective collaboration and knowledge exchange. This project addresses these challenges by creating platforms for cooperation, integrating local and scientific knowledge, and promoting inclusive governance to ensure communities can adapt and respond to crises effectively.
The project aims to strengthen resilience and preparedness in Arctic and northern communities by fostering North‑to‑North cooperation. It will achieve this through improved digital and social connectivity, knowledge sharing, and collaborative policy development. Municipalities, indigenous organizations, and research institutions co-create strategies for emergency preparedness, climate adaptation, and sustainable development. Nordregio contributes by facilitating workshops, synthesizing insights, and providing baseline analysis and policy tools.
The project will deliver actionable policy briefs, a resilience toolbox, and validated methods for preparedness planning. It will strengthen cross-regional networks, enhance local capacity, and improve connectivity for Arctic municipalities. Long-term impacts include better crisis response, climate adaptation strategies, and empowered communities with shared resources and knowledge, contributing to sustainable development and stronger governance in the Arctic.
