This project aims to strengthen sustainability efforts across national, regional, and local levels in the Nordic countries. By supporting knowledge development, peer learning and collaboration through an expert network for sustainable development, it aims to contribute to the long-term implementation of Agenda 2030.
The project facilitates knowledge development and exchange among Nordic civil servants. This is done by network meetings and by producing reports on sustainability governance, implementation and monitoring.
Nordregio will, in collaboration with expert network, define specific research questions and activities to ensure relevance across national, regional, and local levels. It builds on three main components:
- National-level engagement. The project will support enhanced knowledge-sharing among sustainability professionals in national governments across the Nordic countries by engaging with former members of the Nordic COuncil of Minsiter’s Expert Group on Sustainable Development.
- Strengthening the existing Nordic network of local and regional government associations (LRGAs). Nordregio will continue working with its established network of sustainability professionals from the Nordic associations of local and regional authorities. It will also seek to connect this network with national-level actors to strengthen collective impact and improve coordination across governance levels.
- Engaging broader stakeholder groups. Nordregio will also engage with other relevant actors and networks to promote broader inclusion and cross-sector collaboration and exchange.
The project will produce a Nordic report on sustainable development, presenting perspectives on progress and challenges in advancing sustainable development. It will also present views on the post-2030 agenda, contribution to national and global discussions on how to shape the sustainability agenda after 2030. It will also create spaces for national actors, municipalities and regions to exchange experiences.
