Disability indicators for the Nordic Statistics Database: Assessment and selection

This report forms part of a broader effort by the Nordic Co-operation to strengthen access to, and knowledge of, indicators on the situation of persons with disabilities in the Nordics. It builds directly on a study conducted by the Nordic Welfare Centre and Nordregio in 2021, which reviewed available sources of disability statistics and identified the most relevant indicators. One of the study’s key recommendations was that, where possible, existing indicators based on Eurostat data should be used.

Following that previous study, the present report assesses disability statistics for the Nordic countries and identifies those that meet the requirements for publication in the Nordic Statistics Database. The database is an online collection of comparative Nordic statistics on a broad range of topics, containing over 200 indicators. It is funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers to support the work of the Nordic governments in creating joint solutions that benefit citizens across the Nordic countries. The database is developed and maintained by Nordregio.

The findings of this study contribute to the vision of the Nordic cooperation, which prioritises a socially sustainable Nordic region, implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and efforts to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the Nordic level (2030 Agenda).

Nordregio conducted this project in collaboration with Nordic Welfare Centre as part of the project Implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in the Nordic region – Article 31
