The Nordic Council of Ministers has tasked Nordregio to coordinate research and policy networks in three thematic groups, with the purpose of strengthening regional policy cooperation in the Nordic Region.
The thematic groups provide a platform for exchange between national and regional representatives and researchers, helping to address shared challenges in regional development and planning, says Thomas Niedomysl, research director at Nordregio.
These three groups aim to provide a platform for regional policy co-operation and keep Nordregio’s researchers especially close to the most relevant policy themes. The groups each focus on a specific theme, working across borders to exchange knowledge, identify solutions, and launch joint projects.
The three thematic groups are:
- Regional and Local Resilience and Attractiveness
- Competitive and Inclusive Green Transition
- Land Use, Prioritisation and Planning
Within each thematic group there are 3-4 research projects in the works, that tackle different core problems behind the themes, as well as the varying case study areas or demographic groups. The output will vary from webinars, toolboxes and workshops to research articles, reports and policy briefs.
The aim is to ensure that the results of the projects and networks support the vision for a green, competitive, and socially sustainable Nordic Region by 2030, says Thomas Niedomysl.
The thematic groups run from January 2025 – December 2027 and are financed by the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Committee of Senior Officials for Regional Policy.
