Steering Integration in the Nordics: An overview of migrant and refugee integration processes and schemes

Migration and integration are rapidly evolving fields, both in terms of policy development and practical implementation. Providing a clear snapshot of the current landscape—while also capturing ongoing changes— in an accessible format is a valuable resource for practitioners, civil servants, and other experts engaged in this work across the Nordic region.

This study aims to develop an accessible online resource that presents an up-to-date, country-by-country overview of how integration is governed in each Nordic country. It outlines the national governance systems, key actors, and institutional arrangements involved in the integration of migrants and refugees. The overview also includes comparative insights that highlight similarities, differences, and emerging trends across the Nordic region. Data for this study is collected through desktop research, supplemented by expert interviews.
